PALMATRON
|
 |
Mike Palm,
better known as Palmatron, started using
electronic music production software in
1999. His musical influences were fist
in rock and metal music and he played
guitar at a young age. Being in Northern
Ontario he was faraway from the
electronic music scene. Palm got his
first taste of jungle music in 1998
listening to a DJ Hype mixtape supplied
by his friends Kruptah and Illa D. He
was instantly taken over by the hardcore
and abstract sounds and a junglist was
born. Open-mindedness and a love for new
flavours took his exploration through
many genres of music over the next few
years including Goa-Trance, Gabba,
Neurofunk, and Jump-Up. Experimenting
with music production as a hobby through
1999 - 2003, Palm became more and more
involved with his love for music.
Working in London, Ontario, Palmatron
met a co-worker and fellow junglist by
the name of SolCrusha(r.i.p.). SolCrusha
took Palm to some of his first jungle
parties and was the first person to put
Palm on turntables. The memory of this
friend's wisdom will forever push
Palmatron forward in his music.
By 2004 Palmatron was deeply rooted in
the nuskool ragga-jungle genre and had
developed a love for all forms of Reggae
music. Upon teaming up with Bro in 2005,
Palm has become a skilled producer whose
styles have branched off into breakcore
and dubstep, while still progressing his
involvement within the jungle and
drum'n'bass spheres. Palm then formed
the Northern.Ontario.Breakcore.Squad
with Bro in 2005, to promote and expand
the electronic music scene and its
artists in Northern Ontario. This same
year was the year that Palmatron started
to DJ when he and Bro bought a set of
turntables and their first ragga-jungle
records.
Palmatron currently spins old-skool
Drum'n'Bass (the tunes that first got
him deeply involved in the music) as
well as ragga-jungle and some breakcore.
His focus on DJing has now turned
towards the Dubstep and Grime genres.
Palmatron's musical production has given
birth to some bangin jungle tunes such
as 'Poor People', 'Dem Move', 'Come
Together', 'Call to the Grave', and the
smasher 'Babylon DC' (which was produced
with Bro featuring vocals by the Ital
Roots Players and released on the
Survival Story compilation). Now with
some quality productions in the dubstep
genre, including 'The Morning', 'Frost
and Flame', and 'Darkside of the Force',
Palmatron is sure to continue expanding
and progressing his sound.
